Against a backdrop of dark mountains, the left side of the painting is filled with boats painted in shades of brown, black, and gray, lined up close together.
On the right side, the sunlit shore and sea create a striking contrast. Two small boats rest on the beach—perhaps it is a day when the fishermen are not at work.
The quiet fishing village, with no people in sight, is depicted with rich colors and bold brushstrokes that give the scene a sense of strength and depth.
Gabe was born in Naha in 1900 and studied at the Tokyo Fine Arts School. After teaching art at the Okinawa Normal School for a short time, he moved back to Tokyo and began exhibiting his works mainly with the Nika association.
This seascape captures the strong contrast between the dark inland hills and the open, sunlit sea, showing Gabe’s keen sense of composition and confident technique.
