06 "Shikinaen" ONO Bakufu

#06

  • Title:Shikinaen

  • Artist:ONO Bakufu

A woman dressed in a bright red costume with a white plum blossom pattern gracefully performs a dance, holding a fan in her hand.

Her glittering hair ornaments and purple headband make her look elegant and radiant.

Behind her, other women wearing indigo and yellow kasuri-patterned kimonos play the koto and sanshin, adding music to accompany the dance.

In the background screen, you can see a hexagonal pavilion and an arched stone bridge, showing that the setting is Shikina-en, a villa of the Ryukyu royal family.

The dance, the music, and the royal garden scene together create an atmosphere of refined beauty.

Ono Bakufu visited Okinawa in 1934. His works reflect his deep interest in Okinawan performing arts and his effort to capture their unique charm.
