The Daiwa Collection entrusted to one of the most prominent collectors in Japan to the our Art Museum. They were collected by SATO Tatsumi, one of the leading collectors of contemporary art in Japan, and entrusted to this Museum in FY 2010. The Daiwa Collection covers a wide range of artworks in different disciplines, including two- and three-dimensional art, photography, ceramics, and installations, created by world-renowned artists and young artists from inside and outside Japan.

Contemporary art is often considered difficult, but if you listen to the questions posed by its artists, you may discover new discoveries and new ways of thinking. This year's exhibition, titled "The Pleasures of Art," will focus on sculptures, paintings, and photographs from the "Daiwa Collection," a valuable collection of contemporary art work.

■ The History of Okinawa's Fine Arts(Collection Gallery3)

TOHARA Masamatsu Portrait of Lady B

Okinawa's distinctive culture has developed in a climate and history different from that of mainland Japan. How have the changing times impacted Okinawan artists and their work?

"The History of Okinawa's Fine Arts," has been divided into the following sections in an effort to provide visitors a sense of these changes over time : pre-war, post-war, return to mainland Japan, post-reversion to Japan, Okinawan immigrants, and contemporary art.

The exhibition will showcase artworks created by artists from or with links to Okinawa who work or worked inside or outside Okinawa or outside the country to explore how they saw and described their times.
