The World of GIMA Hiroshi
GIMA Hiroshi (1923‐2017) was born in Okinawa, left for Tinian at age seventeen, experienced the end of the war at Yokosuka, and after the war spent his days in Osaka. The Battle of Okinawa left a deep impression on him; it became his life’s work to draw the Battle of Okinawa. He was later drawn to the simplicity and strength of woodblock prints, and thereafter focused on that technique. This exhibition will introduce the world of Hiroshi Gima, who throughout his life continued to portray love for his hometown, hope for peace, and Okinawa.
